Riverwood was established in 1964 and encompasses acres bordering both Pontchitolawa Creek on the north and the Tchefuncte River on the west.

Riverwood is a family community of 344 custom built homes, each on minimum 1/2 acre lots. It offers a beautiful canopy of trees, beautifully landscaped yards, a club house, childrens playground and a private boat launch on the Pontchitolawa Creek accessing the Tchefuncte River.

The subdivision is protected by covenants and is governed by the Riverwood Improvement Association (RIA), which is lead by a Board of Directors. The RIA is chartered under Louisiana Law as a non-profit corporation. It was formed to promote community activities and to make Riverwood more attractive.

The swimming pool, clubhouse, playgrounds, boat dock and launch are part of a three acre tract owned by the Association. These facilities provide a convenient source of recreation and relaxation and are available to all members. Membership in the Association is mandatory. Current dues are $160 per year. Dues are invoiced in January and are delinquent after March 1st. This money helps pay for the maintenance and improvements of RIA owned property, street lighting, as well as for the publication of newsletters, social events . Pool access is by annual subscription for those residents desiring its use. The pool is managed as a separate entity under auspices of the RIA BOD.
